Day 3 Summer Learning Journey

Activity 1:Fantastic Beasts.
In New Zealand we have many unusual animals. One of the most unusual is the kiwi bird - a bird that does not have wings and can not fly. Pretty strange, eh?! J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books, has recently written a new book about strange or unusual animals called ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.’
For this activity, please watch this cool book trailer. Year 7 and Year 8 students in South Auckland, New Zealand helped to make it. Once you have watched the video, use your imagination and create your very own beast. What does your beast look, smell, feel, and sound like?
On your blog, post a description of your beast. Use interesting adjectives (describing words) to tell us about your beast.

Mine looks like a small hair tarantula with and medium scorpion tail whats not poisons.

Its very smooth but with prickly hairs that can penetrate your skin.

You cant smell it because it you extremely don't cause its prickly hairs fall of and they will go into your nose.

When it walks it makes a small noise that keep predators from attacking but its so silent to prey so it could pounce on it.

Activity 2:The Secretive Skink.

We have a number of small lizards (geckos and skinks) living in New Zealand. One of the least common is the Chevron Skink. According to the Department of Conservation, Chevron Skinks live mostly on two islands - Great Barrier Island and Little Barrier Island. These islands are ‘animal reserves.’ Very few people, other than staff working for the New Zealand Department of Conservation (DOC), are allowed to live there. The DOC staff are called ‘Rangers.’ Their job is to protect the wildlife (animals and plants) living on the island.
Would you like to be a DOC ranger and live with the animals on Great Barrier Island?

I don't because I want to see my family and I want to be with friends plus, if I was I probable won't like the food and I don't want to b stuck in one place all the time.

Activity 3:The WWF:World Wildlife Fund.

In 1961, a number of people came together to start an organisation called the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The main goal of this organisation was/is to protect life on earth. Hundreds of WWF staff work in countries all over the world trying to protect our planet and the animals who live here. To learn more about their amazing work, click on one of the two video links below.

Once you have watched the video, go to your blog and, using full sentences, tell us:
1) The name of the animal the WWF is working to save.
2) What the WWF is doing to help the animal.
3) What, if any, success they have had protecting the animal.

They are trying to stop the population go down for tigers and freshwater seals. The way they are helping the seals are by making snow banks, and the way they helping tigers are stop them from getting shot and their skin a bones being sold at the black market. They have do quiet a lot of success of saving animals.

Day 2 summer learning journey

Activity 1:Giant Among Us.
New Zealand has a really special environment. Many of the plants and trees found in New Zealand are not found anywhere else in the world. These plants and trees are endemic to our country. In New Zealand, one of the largest and longest living endemic trees is the NZ Kauri tree. Kauri are mainly found in three regions of New Zealand: the Coromandel, Auckland and Northland. The largest Kauri tree in the country is in the Waipoua Forest in Northland. It is called Tāne Mahuta. Some people refer to it as the ‘Lord of the Forest.’

Thousands of people go to visit Tāne Mahuta every year. Would you like to be one of those people who got to see Tāne Mahuta in real life? Why or why not?

On your blog, tell us whether you would like to go and visit Tāne Mahuta one day. Be sure to tell us why you do (or do not) want to visit this endemic tree.

I would really like to because its really famous and it would probable be the first time I get to see something extremely famous plus I really like its name Tāne Mahuta.

Activity 2:Fabulous Ferns.
One of the most common plants found in New Zealand forests is the fern. It is a special, iconic symbol of New Zealand. You will find pictures of ferns on the jerseys of many famous sporting teams in New Zealand, including the New Zealand All Blacks.

Did you know that many of these teams also have the word ‘fern’ in their name? Use your best researching skills to find three New Zealand sporting teams who use the word ‘fern’ in their title.

On your blog list three sports teams that have the word ‘fern’ in their title. Beside each team’s name, post a picture of their uniform. Then, at the bottom of your blog post tell us which of the three uniforms you like best and why.

Activity 3: Weird and wonderful
New Zealand is just one of many countries that has amazing plants and trees. In fact, the African desert is home to some pretty incredible plants, like the cactus. Some cacti are able to survive on as little as 3 millilitres (ml) of water a day. Wow!

Let’s imagine that you are given a cactus for your birthday. To keep it alive, you must give it 3 ml of water every day.

Over one full year, how much water will you need to give your cactus plant?

On your blog, tell us how to solve this maths problem. You can write your answer in words, use a Sketchpad image, or post a video explaining how you would figure it out. Be sure to give us your final answer in millilitres (ml).

So the way to do it is by finding out how many days are in a year then you times it by three then you see what that is in, ml so that is what I pretty much did to find my answer of 1095. What is actually the number what I got from doing 365 and 3.  

Personnel Hygiene

These fey weeks we have been learning about Personnel Hygiene. Personnel Hygiene is when you wash your hands and cleaning your teeth but I wont spoil it for you so go ahead and watch my animation.

Life of a sea turtle

These couple of weeks we have been learning to use paragraphs and we also have been learning about a sea turtle lives. We had to write about it in a google docs and I think mine is quite good to me. How do you like it? I really want to know! So here it is my

These weeks we have been learning how to make a quality blog comment. We were told to make an animation about a quality blog comment. So I made one about a position making so here it is.

The difference between Boss and Leader.

In Life Education we are learning about relationships and being with other people. We have done activities in the Life Education bus. The first one was when we watched video and learnt that it's good to be different. Next we did a personality test and there was a lion, beaver, otter and a golden retriever. I was in between the golden retriever and the beaver. After that we did a clapping game so the leader says how much times you have to clap. If you clap on 0 you are out and you have to sit down and show that your out. The next day we did what is the difference between Boss and a Leader. It's better to be a leader so you don't be mean to others. We were in buddies and we had to find

out where the boss saying goes.

Change

  This week we made a google slide to show what we did for term 3. my favorite one was the bottle cup flying off.

Science -Change

Today we have been learning about change. This time have learnt how a cork fly's off a bottle. It was quit fun seeing it happen. The first thing Mr Goodin put 1 third of vinegar in a bottle. Next he put quickly 2 tea spoons of baking soda. Last Mr Goodin put the cork in the neck of the bottle fast. (If you need to see it better just click the picture.)

Calendar Art

For calendar art this week we have learnt to blend colors with paint. I really enjoyed painting because
we got to mix paints together. (what is so fun!) I found difficult to get thin and good lines. First we sketched on the outline. Then we started at the top + worked down.

elephant toothpaste

For since we learnt how elephant toothpaste is made. I made some Instruction to help you make it. Plus
the rubber gloves protect you for a, little bit so quickly move your hand out of the way.

Get the ingredients, dry yeast, hot water in a cup, dish washing liquid, rubber gloves and

bleach/hydroperoxide.

1. First put the rubber gloves on.
2. Second you need to put the yeast in a cup with some hot water and stir.
3. third get a bottle and put the yeast in side of the bottle.
4. Fourth put a dribble of dishwashing liquid in the bottle.
5. Fifth put the bleach/hydroperoxide in the bottle then quickly move your hands away.

I think to make a bigger reaction by putting, more dish washing liquid in the bottle so it flows higher than before.

my proverb talking doe's not cook rice

Here's my proverb well mine if your wondering is talking doe's not cook rice. It was pretty hard to do but I did some well one thing if you mite know something tell me and I will reply. (If I can)

Talk does not cook rice. (Chinese) Don’t say there is nothing to do why steering at the little white oval pebbles. When you are bored never say there is nothing to do just dance why look at the rice.(Probably don’t look at the rice while dancing.)

What types of food do you like to eat at parties?

Today we have been learning about bar charts. There were some to chose but we chose what types of food do you like to eat at parties? We put chips and dip, cake and lollies, baking food and sausage rolls. First for chips and dip we got eight, second for cake and lollies we got three, third for baking food we got seven and last of all for sausage rolls we got seven. Here are the photos we took.

Today the Wednesday 13th of June I have something about Matariki for you.

1. theres six sisters and one mother. The mothers name is Matariki. the first sisters name is Tapu-a- nuku, the second one is Uru-a-rangi, third is Tupu-a-rangi, 4 Waipuna-a-rangi, 5 waita and waiti.
2. heres some names for stuff. Kia is food, Whananu is family, pukenga is skills, manu is bird and mokomoko is lizard.

Measurement part one

In maths we are learning about measurement. Today we learnt about meters. First we wrote items in the class that we thought was about a meter. Next we had to actually measure them to see how long the item was. Then I had to work out the difference between my guess and the actual measured. The hardest part was when I had to think of an item to measure.

What I know about Matariki

We have been learning about Matariki for 2 weeks. In the 2 weeks I have learned that matariki the moari new year is all was in june.(did you know that?) I fond Intresting is when I had to do the word find and I didn't know the words. The hardest part is when I had to do the fill in the gaps.

paper aeroplans-Measurement

In maths I have been learning about measrement. I have been learning how to estimate and measure. I made a paper plan. My teacher marked out a runway with a measuring tape. First I had to estimate how far my plane would go. I estimated 2.7 m, it actually flew 5.7m. My second throw I estimated 6m, it actually flew 8m.
I found hard to remember how to make a plan. What did you enjoy?

All About Me

Today in math we have been learning about measure it was really fun. The easy part is when we had to do are leg and the hard part,is when we had to do the neck.

In cyber smart I have been learning about being responsible with chrome books. First we put our prior knowledge on a padlet. Then we buddeid up and created a infographic about being responsible with chrome books. I found it hard to think cos it was loud. I found it easy to do the word art.
